Scoring Criteria | |
1. Description of the Organization (maximum 5 points, please limit to ½ pages) | COMMUNITY PRIDE, MI, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, homegrown in the Saugatuck-Douglas community. The work we do is grounded in social justice philanthropy. We promote unity, inclusion, and awareness of gender, sexual identity and racial diversity and aim to create a sense of community and safe spaces for all individuals. We commit to: Because at our core is diversity and bringing diverse people together at events, our target population is equally as wide and diverse. In other words, we welcome all. |
2. Funding Request (maximum 35 points, total, please limit to 1 page) | In 2024, Community Pride, MI is again taking our vision and hosting events - PRIDE festival weekend and Oktoberfest - within our communities so that all welcoming people can participate in education, collaboration, growth, and celebration. While being rooted in LGBTQ+ interests, Community Pride, MI envisions events where people from diverse walks of life come together, safely and openly as their whole selves in this exceptional community we call home. We’re extremely excited to kick off PRIDE month in June with a weekend that is sure to captivate, entertain and inspire! The four days of events include: May 30th - LGBTQ+ Political Update/Speakers and PRIDE Bowling Party May 31st - Lecture at the Library and Jazz for Justice June 1st - PRIDE Care-A-Van Parade and PRIDE in the Park June 2nd - Tea Dance Community Pride, MI’s events are free to attend because we don’t want to exclude anyone due to cost. All sponsorships, donations, as well as any revenue earned at events, go directly to cover expenses related to promoting, organizing and conducting events in our communities. |
3. Funding Justification (maximum 40 points, please limit to 1 page) | If Community Pride, MI were to receive funding from West Shore Aware in 2024, those important funds would directly impact the quality of the Pride and Oktoberfest events. West Shore Aware funding, along with funds we receive from all private, nonprofit, and corporate donors simply make bringing our events to the community a reality. Any remaining funds are used toward future events, should there be any. Because event production often includes securing reservations and supplies well in advance of an event, it’s critical that we judiciously manage the funds we collect for future use. Historically, private/personal donations equate to about 10% of the funds we raise. Nonprofits and other local entities represent approximately 40% of funding. Corporate sponsors cumulatively bring in almost half of sponsorships and donations. |
4. Summary | All of Community Pride, MI’s event lineup for 2024 is free to attend, which aligns with our organization’s mission of supporting and giving equal opportunities to people, from all walks of life, to participate in these events. Our parade brings families out, the musical talent crosses multiple genres, vendor booths draw shoppers, and lectures and political updates attract thought-provocation and spur engagement and action within communities. Clearly, we know our role within the LGBTQ+ community is important in the greater Saugatuck-Douglas community because it’s both part of our history and vital to how widely we welcome visitors here in the future. Our funding is generated directly from hosting these events in partnership with the support of our donors and sponsors. We believe our community is a better place to live and to visit with these events. With the support of organizations like West Shore Aware we can continue to make Saugatuck Douglas the unique and special place for many to enjoy. |
