Scoring Criteria | |
1. Description of the Organization (maximum 5 points, please limit to ½ pages) | The Saugatuck-Douglas Rotary is a group of dedicated local business leaders united by a common goal to serve. Each year we host the legendary Mt Baldhead Challenge "Ultimate Multi-Terrain Race" for 600 regional athletes. This requires a team of 6 year round race directors, over 100 race day volunteers and coordination with The City of Saugatuck, the Village of Douglas, The Fire Dept, the Sherrifs Dept, DPWs, Parks Dept, and several other agencies. Through Bib Fees, Generous Sponsors and Donors we raise over $100,000.00 annually. 100% of MBC net goes directly to our local Boys and Girls Club which serves over 100 local youth, and their families, each day. |
2. Funding Request (maximum 35 points, total, please limit to 1 page) | $14,000 - Cost for 10 youth per year. This includes costs for all programing during the school year and summer break. |
3. Funding Justification (maximum 40 points, please limit to 1 page) | $14,000 will cover the costs for 10 youths / families for 1 year. All other funding will come from Race Entry Fees, After race purchases, Corporate Sponsors and Group / Individual donations. |
4. Summary | The Mt Baldhead Challenge enters its 24th year in 2024. Rotary has "run" this event for approximately half this time. Rotary always donated 100% of race profits to local charities. 5 years ago we decided to do something different, focus on one specific need. We organized a partnership with the B&GC of Greater Holland and launched the B&GC@SD. Now every cent generated by the MBC goes toward the B&GC@SD. Our local Club has experienced unprecedented growth and success. Initially we thought we would be successful to have an average of 25-50 youth volunteer to attend the club after school from 3-6PM each day. Today we average over 100 youth per day! The need has been proven. The value has been proven. We don't waste 1 penny on facilities because we use our existing infrastructure in partnership with Douglas Elementary. All resources fund staff and supplies to provide much needed after school support to local youth and their families. The B&GC @ SD is a significant success because of the vision of Rotary Leadership, Partnership with our Schools, Partnership with the B&GC of Greater Holland, 600 athletes who run with purpose for purpose, generous sponsors and donors alike. The need for a Club has been proven. The Value of the Club has been proven. The need to expand the Club to include Middle School and High School Youth remains. Please partner with us to continue and expand this important work in our community. |
